The development of a Wave Energy Test Site in Belmullet (Ireland): Experience to date

Date: October 08, 2013 at 21:18 GMT

Abstract: The Irish government has tasked the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) to develop a full scale, grid connected test site for the deployment of wave energy converters.

The test site will be located in the West of Ireland, off the coast of Co. Mayo giving it one of the best wave climates in Western Europe.

The full scale Wave Energy Test Site in Belmullet provides a platform, not only for testing WECs, but also for gaining experience on how to develop such sites and connect them to the grid. In this paper we aim to share some of our experience to date.

We have selected 3 topics for this paper: „A general introduction into the project?, „The importance of the offshore Site Investigations? and the „Test Site Electrical Connectivity – Impact on Project Cost?
