Certification of Wave and Tidal Energy Converters

Date: November 04, 2013 at 18:39 GMT

This paper describes the DNV gradual process for certification of wave and tidal energy converters, including the early handling of procurement, basis for certification, methods for dealing with novelty, uncertainty and lack of data, risk management and mitigation techniques, and the philosophy underlying the process from concept design through to operation and decommissioning of the wave or tidal energy converter. Potential pitfalls of a wave or tidal energy project will also be addressed, along with ways in which these can be avoided using the processes inherent in the certification method.
