Integration of Electricity generated by Ocean Energy Technologies into the Electricity Supply System

Date: October 15, 2013 at 20:22 GMT

Summary: Ocean energy technologies have the potential to substantially contribute to the electricity supply in many countries. However, the dependence of the power output on the availability of the energy resource pose a major challenge for the integration into the existing electricity supply system. Three major areas of concern can be identified:

  • Transport and congestion management due to remote locations
  • Balancing of partly weather dependent and intermittent generation
  • Grid security, grid management and frequency control
