Workshop on Environmental Acceptability of Marine Renewable Energy Devices

Posted 2025-09-05 in News

OES-Environmental & Aquatera Ltd. Madeira, Wednesday 10 September, 17:45 - 19:15

The objective of the workshop is to discuss the development of the environmental acceptability process for marine renewable energy devices under the OES-Environmental.

OES-Environmental is an international initiative dedicated to understanding the environmental effects of marine renewable energy that includes representation from 16 nations. One of OES-Environmental new research areas is exploring the environmental acceptability of marine renewable energy devices. Although environmental effects of wave and tidal energy devices are globally known, these devices have different archetypes and can be deployed in diverse ecosystems.  Therefore, there is a need to better understand specific environmental effects and design systems that assure avoiding impacts and/or mitigating them.

This workshop will be organised as a side event of the European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference (EWTEC) 2025, taking place in Madeira. More details about EWTEC can be found at https://ewtec.org/ewtec-2025/

All interested persons are invited to attend.

The OES is organised under the auspices of the International Energy Agency (IEA) but is functionally and legally autonomous. Views, findings and publications of the OES do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the IEA Secretariat or its individual member countries.
