Selected ICOE 2024 Papers Published in IMEJ

A selection of papers presented at the International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) 2024 has been published in a special issue of the International Marine Energy Journal (IMEJ).

Held in Melbourne, Australia, ICOE 2024 brought together researchers, technology developers, policymakers and other stakeholders from across the global ocean energy community to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest developments and opportunities for the sector. The conference addressed a broad range of topics, including technological advances, market development, policy, socio-economic and environmental aspects, and investment opportunities.

Volume 8, No. 5 (2026) of the International Marine Energy Journal incorporates the second of two special issue paper sections dedicated to ICOE 2024 and was published in April 2026. Guest edited by Irene Penesis and Philip Marsh from the University of Tasmania, the issue brings together nine papers selected from the conference.

The published research reflects the diversity of topics explored at ICOE 2024, including wave energy converter technologies and modelling, renewable energy-based offshore microgrids, the co-location of offshore wind and wave energy, operations and maintenance costs, experimental measurement uncertainty, and skills and employability within the Blue Economy.

The first ICOE 2024 special issue was published in Vol. 8 No. 3 (2025) of the International Marine Energy Journal.
